EPUB to PDF
Change an EPUB ebook into a PDF with proper, searchable text that you can read on any screen, print out or pass on. Everything happens on your own computer or phone, so the book is never sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Pick the EPUB file you want to convert, or drop it into the box.
- Leave the page size and text size as they are, or change them to suit you.
- Press Convert to PDF, then save the finished file.
How the PDF is laid out
Chapters, headings, lists, tables and pictures all come through, set out on pages of your chosen size with page numbers added, and each chapter begins on a fresh page. For a paperback feel on screen, pick Book size (A5); if you mean to print, A4 or US Letter will match your paper. The words remain genuine text rather than images, so searching, selecting and copying all work. The book's table of contents turns into PDF bookmarks, and links within the book, footnotes for example, still jump to the right spot.
Where the book carries its own fonts and they cover every character it needs, TeddyPDF uses them; if not, it falls back to a clear, readable book font. Because an ebook flows while a PDF has fixed pages, and ebooks are put together in many different ways, an unusual layout may not match the original exactly. Most books turn out well, but leaf through the PDF, especially the tables and pictures, before you depend on it. The whole job takes place inside your browser, and the page locks itself before the book is opened so nothing can be sent out. An EPUB is really a little website bundled into one file, and some carry scripts or links to other sites; TeddyPDF reads the pages without running any of that, and nothing the book points to online is fetched.
Books this tool cannot handle
Copy-protected books. Plenty of ebooks sold by online shops carry DRM, a form of copy protection. TeddyPDF spots this and tells you, but it will not attempt to get past it. DRM-free books, such as those from Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks or publishers who sell without protection, convert with no trouble. Fixed-layout and Kindle books. Titles designed page by page, such as picture books, comics and some cookbooks, are not supported yet. Kindle formats (MOBI, AZW3 and KFX) are a separate kind of file; only EPUB is accepted here.
Scripts and subjects. Text in Latin, Greek and Cyrillic scripts is fine. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic and Hebrew cannot be handled yet. Maths is turned into plain text, so a formula may not come out as it was written. If your book looks likely to run into any of these problems, the page will warn you.
Questions and answers
Can I search and copy text in the PDF?
You can. The words are kept as genuine text, so searching, highlighting and copying passages all work.
What does it mean when my book is flagged as DRM-protected?
It means the book has copy protection that limits which apps may open it. TeddyPDF does not convert such books and makes no attempt to strip the protection. Books without DRM convert as normal.
How quickly will my book be ready?
A typical novel is done in a few seconds. Long books with lots of pictures take more time, and the very largest may use up a phone's memory, in which case a computer is the better choice.
Does TeddyPDF upload my file?
No. Your browser does all the work, on your own device. Before it opens your file, this page shuts off its own ability to send or fetch anything, and your browser holds it to that.
